Let’s Revisit Leonardo DiCaprio’s Best Role: ‘Growing Pains’
Christine Lakin reportedly lost out on a role on Fuller House, and the comedy actress claims she may know why.
The Step by Step star recently made an appearance on a podcast hosted by Full House and Fuller House star Jodie Sweetin, where she claimed that she was set to have a recurring role on the Netflix reboot until she was unexpectedly let go from the show.
Lakin told Sweetin that she had a “great” meeting with Fuller House creator Jeff Franklin and “was stoked” about joining the cast.
She recalled, “And then about two days before the table read, I got a call from my manager saying, ‘Yes, something happened. They’re pushing the table read. I think there’s some stuff with the script they want to rewrite.”
She continued, “The next day happened and my manager calls and says, ‘Hey, I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’ve been let go.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, they just said they’re rewriting the character and they’re not going to need you anymore. And I was like, ‘What did I do wrong?’ I didn’t even go to a table read.”
Lakin mentioned that she even asked a writer if they knew why she was let go, but the writer also didn’t know.
Lakin, however, could guess one possible reason she wouldn’t be welcomed onto the show.
The comedy actress explained that she once starred in a Funny or Die video that mocked Candace Cameron Bure‘s brother, actor Kirk Cameron, for his anti-LGBTQ comments.

“I participated in a Funny or Die video that a friend of mine made and at the time, Funny or Die had just come out,” Lakin said. “Kirk Cameron had said some public things about the LGBTQ community and I thought those were very damaging.”
In the video, Lakin formed a group with other former child actors called Child Celebrities Opposing Kirk Cameron — or “CCOKC” — who claimed they were “pledging to raise awareness about a serious threat to our civil rights: Kirk Cameron’s stupid opinions.”
Though the video was “satire,” Lakin wondered if it “created some bad blood” with Bure, who is vocal about her religious views. “And seven years later, my presence was not wanted. That’s maybe what I think,” Lakin wondered.
She added, “It was a bummer for me. It really was.”
Though Lakin never joined the cast, Cameron did make an appearance in a Fuller House episode Bure directed in Season 5.
Bure has faced some backlash of her own after she claimed Great American Family would not feature LGBTQ romances in favor of keeping “traditional marriage at the core,” a claim that the network CEO shut down.
In another instance, actress Miss Benny, who played the Full House franchise’s first gay character, revealed that she was “warned and prepared” that Bure “was trying to get the character removed and not have a queer character on the show.”
