Whoopi Goldberg Breaks Down In Tears During Emotional ‘Sister Act 2’ Reunion On ‘The View’

Whoopi Goldberg was overcome with emotion while reuniting with her Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit co-stars on this morning’s episode of The View, where she broke down in tears during the cast’s live performance of “Joyful, Joyful.”

Goldberg welcomed co-stars Kathy Najimy, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Wendy Makkena to the hit daytime talk show to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary and reminisce on their time working together. The now-grown-up Catholic school students in the film, including Goldberg’s real-life daughter Alex Martin, also joined in on the fun.

At the end of the episode, the cast, along with students from the LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, graced the audience with a powerful performance of “Joyful, Joyful.” As Tanya Trotter took over the solo part from a missing Lauryn Hill, Goldberg danced and sang along while wearing a nun’s habit much like the one her character Sister Mary Clarence wore in the film.

By the end of the song, Goldberg was very clearly sobbing as she embraced her co-stars.

“Don’t forget, Sister Act 3 is in the works,” she reminded the audience. “The script is in and I can’t wait for the day I can say, ‘Come along for the ride,’ because we got that green light!”

Meanwhile, fans of the movie were absolutely living for this reunion on social media, with some declaring today’s broadcast the “best episode of The View in years.“

“This got me smiling from ear to ear 🥹,” one wrote on X ( formerly known as Twitter), while another added, “Giving that crowd what they wanted! Just goes to show that Whoopi is always ahead of the game with her finger on the pulse of her audience.”

A third fan said, “It’s a beautiful moment to see Whoopi humbled and emotional by each of the actors memories of her,” while someone else chimed in, “I cried too! It was absolutely joyful!! Thank you.”

Another gushed, “Whoopi, I’m a 74 yr. old gr’ma who has always loved you, but when I saw you get so emotional today after the ‘Joyful,’ song, I started crying! You are absolutely amazing! I will love you forever!! Much love to you!!!”
