Christopher Meloni has some good news for Law & Order fans: Mariska Hargitay will be making a cameo in Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 5.
While speaking to Today.com, the NBC star discussed the show’s recent move to Peacock and revealed he will be writing the second episode of the new season, which will feature a cameo from his former co-star.
“Oh, girlfriend’s coming on,” he told Today.
In another interview with People, Meloni teased that the episode will “uncover” a new layer of Captain Elliot Stabler and Captain Olivia Benson’s relationship.
“I’m going to have an opportunity to… I don’t know,” he said. “I’ll tell you what. Hopefully, uncover, peel away a little bit more of the onion or uncover a little more depth of feeling between them.”
Hargitay made an appearance in the Organized Crime Season 3 finale, when Stabler gifted Benson a compass necklace.
“I wanted it to mean as much to him as it meant to me. So he’s the one that came up with what the (symbols on the compass) stood for,” she told Today.com earlier this year. Meloni said the necklace symbolizes “true north,” as if to say, “The star by which you navigate.”
The OC Season 3 finale was also a crossover episode with the Season 24 finale of SVU. The episode showed Benson get shot for the first time, prompting Stabler to pick her up and carry her to safety.

Meloni credited that romantic moment to the “sneaky” SVU writers. “They want any excuse to have that woman in my arms,” he said, before adding: “And I’m here for that!”
It’s hard to believe that after 25 years, Benson and Stabler still haven’t taken their longtime partnership to the next step, despite their undeniable chemistry. The actors may not star on the same show anymore, but it looks like they’re both hoping for their characters to finally get their happy ending.
As Hargitay recently said, “It’s time.”
“I just told [Meloni] the other day. We had a party the other night, we saw each other,” she told Variety earlier this year. “It was heavenly. I met his showrunner. They want us together, and Chris and I were talking about it, and it’s time. It’s time now for us. This was a long time not being in each other’s universe… But we’re excited to get back in there, get back in the ring.”
A premiere date for Law & Order: Organized Crime as not been announced yet.
Both shows are now streaming on Peacock.
